Wisdom begins with wonder.

– Socrates

In the elementary years our focus is exploration and guiding children to mastering the tools needed to become lifelong learners. Children’s minds are primed for absorption and driven by curiosity at this age. We harness this energy to amplify learning.

At Haywood Haven, we believe skill mastery and discerning God’s will for our lives, not grades, is the goal of education. In the early years, we seek to safeguard childhood wonder by working with a child’s innate desire to learn. Childhood is a short, precious, unrepeatable season of life. Our children are not tiny adults capable of endless hours of rigor and focus. They are passionate and quirky. God made them that way on purpose.

We believe parents are the best source of wisdom about how, what, and when their child learns best. We seek to empower parents to take control of their child’s education by giving them the ability to build a customized schedule that fits their families needs.

We also believe mastery is achieved through a formula of instruction, application, and enrichment. Our class days are broken up to focus on these elements (instruction on Tuesday and Thursday; application on Wednesday; enrichment on Monday). Parents are able to choose certain classes, individual days, or all classes Monday through Thursday.

Students will be guided to develop their writing style and supported in gathering the tools needed to craft poems, short stories, skits, and more. Confidence in one’s writing ability pours over into every area of life as children learn to create a word of their own making

Drama & Music: Children are natural musicians and actors. During this class, we’ll create skits, act out classic stories, learn the basics of music, move our bodies, and have a blast!

Imagination Stations: At Haywood Haven, we believe imagination and curiosity are superpowers! Some of the greatest learning occurs when we provide students with a few supplies, outdoor space, and unstructured time with friends. We stock a plethora of crafting materials, costume pieces, supplies for building, various nature locations, and let the kids be the geniuses they naturally are.
